The days are getting colder, the evenings are getting darker and the coats are being hauled out from the back of the wardrobe. Crisper mornings can only mean one thing – it’s time to invest in new knitwear! I’m all about being cosy and I would walk around in a blanket if I could, so embracing knitwear is the next best thing. I feel like a jumper and jeans is the easiest way of being stylish in autumn / winter, whilst also being practical and keeping warm. It’s a similar concept to the ‘jeans and a nice tee’ mantra that we all follow and with that in mind, I think I’m going to start describing the majority of my autumn / winter wardrobe as primarily focused around ‘jeans and a nice jumper’.
I did, however, think it would be nice to mix things up a bit for my haul from Femme Luxe. I don’t usually wear a lot of neutrals like grey or white in the autumn / winter months, as I tend to associate those colours with spring and summer. I have no idea why I do this, as I’ve come to realise that just because we expect to see out the colder months in head-to-toe black’s and burgundy’s, doesn’t mean we have to! Don’t worry though, there’s still a fair bit of black, as I’m not ready to fully let go just yet… There’s also a hint of the ‘jeans and a nice jumper’ I spoke about, but it’s primarily other combinations. I think even if you’re used to keeping things the same, it’s always nice to try something out of your comfort zone. A new season is the perfect time for this as the transition from bear arms and legs can be a tough one, so it’s great to have some new bits to look forward to styling in different ways!
The first knitwear item I went for was this Grey Cable Knit Cropped Jumper. I already know I love a cable knit, but I’ve never considered a cropped one before. Deciding to dive straight in at the deep end and be firmly out of my comfort zone, I decided to go for it. I chose to style it with a crop cami dress, which if you follow me on Instagram you will have seen before styled a little differently. I love to get as much wear out of my ‘out of season’ clothes as possible, so pairing this with bare legs and converse for autumn and then upgrading this with tights and boots for winter means I can happily wear this dress all year. The jumper is also perfect to wear with a skirt, or jeans, but being 5’8 I chose to play it safe. It is quite cropped, and I’m not used to showing my midriff off. Maybe when I’ve got back into the gym and feel more confident then I’ll dare to bare, but at least the option’s there!
The next item I chose was this Mocha Fine Knit Oversized Jumper, which I’m a huge fan of – the colour is just perfect. Usually beige can be a bit hit and miss with my pale complexion, but this is such a universally flattering shade that it just works. The open knit detailing is also a really nice touch, it makes a change from my usual covered up knits! I chose to pair this with some straight leg jeans in a pale wash and a belt for a more casual look, but it could easily be dressed up with a skirt or tucked into a pair of trousers.
This Cream High Neck Cropped Knit Jumper was my next pick. I’m quite accustomed to wearing roll neck’s so the high neck is quite nice and gives a little more breathing room which I really like. I chose to style this one a bit more formally than the previous two, with a pair of plisse crop trousers and some ankle boots. I really like this outfit, as it’s perfect for work or drinks. Like the previous two, it’s super easy to create different looks with and could easily be paired with a maxi skirt, or jeans, to create a more casual look.
Finally, the Black Ribbed Knit Button Detail Maxi Dress was the last item I chose. Throwing myself fully out of my comfort zone but being surprisingly pleased with the results! The ribbed texture of the dress, combined with its stretch and thickness, make it a perfect choice for the cooler months. I’d never usually consider a tight dress for anything, but I think I’m converted. Drinks, work or even a day out shopping, there’s definitely ways to dress this up or down! The length is more of a midi then a maxi on me, but I absolutely love a midi dress and the fact this could easily be worn by a variety of heights and still look amazing is fab.
All of these gorgeous pieces, and many more, can be found on the Femme Luxe website in their dedicated knitwear collection which can be found here. I’d love to know which your favourite piece was?
I hope I’ve succeeded in giving you all some inspiration for knitwear season!
